It was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet between 1461 and 1462 to ensure the security of the Dardanelles.Located on the Anatolian side of the Bosphorus and positioned opposite Kilitbahir Castle, the building served as the headquarters of the Central Defense Group in the 1915 Çanakkale Battles.
